Garrett is #5!Garrett's first practice was a hoot. He got out of the car and coach said, "This kid is a machine." He got up to bat and coach says, "You even stand like a real baseball player."(Poor coach is dealing with eight children who have never played ball before; and two of them run away from practice regularly.)Then Garrett starts hitting. Coach Searle, pitching, gets more and more excited as parents start taking notice . . .
"Coach you better take a few steps back."
Coach moves ten feet after Garrett drills one at him on the next pitch.
"Hey, who's your trainer?"
Various oohs and aahs . . .
"Are you gonna be a baseball player when you grow up?"
More of the same . . .
"Do you have the same doctor as A-rod?"
To the other group of kids practicing catching in left field:
"Heads up! . . . Look out! . . . You guys might wanna move!"
And finally, from an anonymous parent whom I love for setting up this gem . . .
"Kid you're gonna make your mama rich one day!" To which Garrett replied,
"I'm gonna be rich EVERY day when I play baseball!"Then, because I can't resist, I yell to him, "Hey Garrett, switch it up!"
Garrett steps to the other side of the plate . . .
Coach, "No Way! No Way!!!!"
He's swingin' for the trees. Left-handed. Coach is giddy. I love this game.
